Satisfying market expectations and growing

The economic, social and environmental challenges of the energy, water and waste markets present GDF SUEZ with issues that must be resolved in order to meet the growing requirements of its customers and the energy needs of the future. By placing research and innovation at the heart of its strategy, GDF SUEZ is pursuing its ambition to offer efficient and innovative solutions to individuals, communities and businesses.

Research and Innovation

GDF SUEZ’s Research and Innovation policy is based on five programs that are structured and implemented to develop the technologies of tomorrow.

Offers and services to household customers focusing on energy and environmental efficiency

    Clients GDF SUEZ

To meet the expectations of its private customers with regard to energy and environmental efficiency, GDF SUEZ is developing innovative offers to help control energy consumption and reduce environmental impacts. A few examples:

DolceVita loans: To help households finance their eco-efficiency projects, GDF SUEZ and Banque Solféa have completely overhauled their DolceVita range of loans (for natural gas or renewable energy heating systems, thermal insulation, natural gas BBC solution for new builds, etc.). These loans are aimed at all households, GDF SUEZ customers or otherwise, real estate companies (Sociétés Civiles Immobilières - SCI) and landlords.

Unique skills to meet challenges for tomorrow’s businesses

    Client GDF SUEZ

Whether the aim is to reduce the environmental footprint, to monitor and anticipate regulations or to maintain social equity, consideration of sustainable development by businesses is a significant lever for innovation to stay one step ahead in the marketplace.

Integrating these new imperatives into business has become just as important for the survival of a company as improving its financial performance.

The GDF SUEZ Group and its specialist teams provide sustainable solutions for industrial customers in the fields of energy, water, sanitation and associated services, in order to support them in the challenges they are facing now and will face in the future.

GDF SUEZ Global Energy works with large companies and manufacturers in an approach focused on streamlining their energy consumption and optimizing their facilities through innovative solutions, in order to improve energy use and achieve customer objectives for sustainable development.

Energy efficiency contract: Cofely has developed a contractual framework intended to guarantee its customers energy savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over time: the Energy and Environmental Efficiency Contract. This Efficiency Contract relies on various quantified commitments—throughout the period of time that it is in force. At least once a year, a report is sent to the customer.

A greenhouse gas emission assessment tool for waste management: SITA has developed a greenhouse gas emissions assessment tool linked to a waste management service. This tool enables sales teams to calculate the emissions generated and saved by the services they offer for tender bids, or where there is an existing relationship with a customer. The tool covers waste collection through to processing and recovery, including transfer, sorting and pre-processing. The calculations take into account the characteristics of the flows to be managed and the facilities involved. The results are presented by flow and by stage. Several scenarios can then be presented to customers with the scenario causing the lowest emissions being given priority.

Customer satisfaction

GDF SUEZ makes customer satisfaction one of its priorities. The Group’s entities regularly run satisfaction surveys to indentify strengths and any room for improvement in the services and solutions they offer.

  • Elengy: ISO 9001 is a standard that applies to customer quality requirements and to regulatory requirements. As part of this, in July 2010 Elengy ran a satisfaction survey among its current and prospective customers. 93% of responses were “Satisfied” or “Very satisfied”. Elengy’s ISO 9001 certification was reconfirmed for its LNG terminals’ regasification operations and for gas odorization in its distribution systems.

  • GDF SUEZ Global Energy: Handling major European accounts, in 2010 it carried out a survey of current and prospective customers to assess customer satisfaction and understand expectations. Out of nine companies, 165 decision makers responded, of which 51 were French accounts and 73 European accounts.
    • 87% were satisfied, of which about half (56%) were extremely satisfied or very satisfied with GDF SUEZ Global Energy.
    • 92% had had some contact with their Key Account Manager during the previous six months.
    • 41% of customers said they would recommend GDF SUEZ Global Energy, versus 28% of prospective customers rating their own suppliers.
