GDF SUEZ ensures that its customers receive a continuous and secure supply of natural gas. To do so, the Group has a diversified portfolio of contracts and is increasing its underground gas storage capacity which guarantees supply throughout the year.

The Group supplies natural gas through a portfolio of long-term contracts which are among the most diversified in Europe, from more than a dozen countries. This portfolio sources some 1,260 TWh from around the world, which is about 115 billion cubic meters. These contracts give GDF SUEZ the necessary force to ensure growth and secure supplies. GDF SUEZ is also one of the largest players in the short-term markets in Europe. This means it can adjust procurement to its needs and optimize purchase prices.
In 2011, the Group closed on the purchase of five storage sites in Germany and acquired a 19.7% stake in a sixth site. The six sites are located along the track of the future Nordstream gas pipeline and will provide the increased market flexibility needed.
In order to further develop interaction with customers and improve its allocations of storage capacity, Storengy's sales arm is organizing participative "storage workshops". They explain the annual process whereby storage capacity is allocated to Storengy customers and the changes that often need to be incorporated.
In late 2009 and in May 2010, a consultation process was launched, and two storage workshops were organized for March and June 2010. The consultation and workshops allowed all customers to talk about the coming changes. In order to make the storage offer easier to understand, comprehend the complexity of the underlying industrial tool, and capitalize on the experience and know-how of the storage site operators, in 2008 Storengy's sales team set up technical training sessions at these sites, mainly for current and prospective customers.
