02/11/2009 - GDF SUEZ partners with the French Pavilion for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai
Shanghai, November 2, 2009 - Gérard Mestrallet, Chairman and CEO of GDF SUEZ, and José Frèches, President of French Company for the Shanghai World Expo (Compagnie Française pour l'Exposition Universelle de Shanghaï), signed a partnership agreement for the French Pavilion at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. Through this partnership, GDF SUEZ supports the creation of the French Pavilion and provides skill-based sponsorship through its subsidiary ETC, a recognized specialist in building illuminations and public lighting.
ETC will undertake an audiovisual and multi-media development project covering 6,000 m2 for the French Pavilion designed by the architect Jacques Ferrier and operate the system for six months. Giant screens and plasma flat screens will be placed in the Pavilion where video projectors will show scenes of the City, the theme of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, featuring sequences such as the City and Climate, the City and Nature, the City and the Future, the City and Movement, and the City and Water. In this way, ETC will also showcase France, with its mastery of technologies combining illuminations and public lighting.
To this exceptional feature will be added in the “Odorama Space” a system by which scents will be wafted along visitor pathways.
On the occasion of the signing ceremony, Gérard Mestrallet stated: “I am delighted with this partnership between GDF SUEZ and the French Pavilion for the World Expo at Shanghai, an exceptional occasion to showcase the economic vitality of China and place Shanghai at the forefront of the international scene. Through this skill-based sponsorship, it also represents an occasion for our teams to demonstrate their professionalism and expertise. The main theme of Shanghai 2010, ‘a better city, a better life,’ is at the heart of GDF SUEZ energy and environment challenges and businesses.”
