Good Planet: The environment as taught to children

It is the mission of Good Planet, which was created by photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, to make young people aware of the challenges of sustainable development. In 2008, over 57,000 schools in France received free kits to create photographic exhibitions based on environmental themes.

Humanity is currently dealing with an unprecedented energy problem: How do we meet the needs of 6.7 billion people and still protect the environment? As a major force in energy worldwide, GDF SUEZ shares the same goal as the association Good Planet: making populations more aware of environmental challenges.

Raising awareness of sustainable development

Since it was created in 2005, Good Planet has implemented a vast program for raising environmental awareness entitled “Why sustainable development?”

This program consists of displaying about twenty photographs by Yann Arthus-Bertrand each year at no cost in every primary and secondary school in France. After an exhibition on “Sustainable development” in 2006 and one on “Biodiversity” in 2007, the 2008 exhibition has as its theme “Energy: What are the choices for tomorrow?”

Offering photo exhibitions

In October 2008, GDF SUEZ partnered with Good Planet to produce the kits (posters and texts) necessary to put on the exhibitions in schools with an energy theme. These will be distributed at no cost to all 57,000 schools in France.
