Fondation du Football

GDF SUEZ shares the commitment, convictions, and values of the Fondation du Football, and the company has been helping the foundation in its initiatives since it was created on 27 February 2008, thus expanding its partnership with the Fédération Française de Football and the French national soccer team.

Soccer: an expression of civic pride

With 2.3 million members, 18,000 amateur clubs located throughout France, and one million matches played every year, soccer is a popular sport in every sense of the word and provides unequalled opportunities for socializing and learning civic values.

GDF SUEZ has used these facts as a reason to support the Fondation du Football by becoming a founding and sponsoring member, helping it achieve its mission, and making its expertise and skills available to meet the challenges of respecting the environment and civic engagement more generally.

Concrete actions

The Fondation du Football is helping amateur clubs in France pass its key messages on to young players through the four programs it is developing - Initiation Health, Athletic Spirit, Civic Engagement, and the Green Program – centered around three themes that express the foundation’s actions: respect for self, respect for others, and respect for the environment.

To achieve this, the Foundation has put into place the following awareness initiatives:

“Respect Tous Terrains” (“Respect all Fields”)

The goal is to raise awareness in 180 pilot clubs chosen throughout France and to try out a citizenship program that offers activities developed by the foundation and its partners. For the environmental part of the program, GDF SUEZ has participated in the development of messages and advice to promote eco-friendly behaviour.

“Les Trophées de la Fondation du Football”

The Fondation du Football wants to encourage and assist the setting up of social and educational initiatives within its clubs. To identify, support, and promote these “good habits” that have already been implemented, it created the “Trophées de la Fondation du Football”, which will enable every amateur club in France to present operations put into place to instill in its members basic habits for health, civic responsibility, and protection of the environment. GDF SUEZ, as a member, sits on two juries: civic engagement and green program.

The televised broadcast of publicity spots to encourage supporters to adopt more respectful attitudes.

The purpose of this communications campaign is to remind people that soccer is first and foremost a way to learn, a synonym for conviviality, tolerance, and learning about others. This is a logical extension of the mission of the Fondation du Football: promoting its educational virtues of discipline by putting them to use for the general interest and strengthening social bonds.
