Corporate responsibility in the activities of the Group

pho00033077_v2.jpgAs the world’s leading energy company, GDF SUEZ supports local socio-economic development. From social support of riparian populations of a dam to mediation in neighbourhoods experiencing difficulties, GDF SUEZ undertakes initiatives that are very complementary in this regard. This approach puts into motion significant resources in matters of societal engineering both at a centralized level of the company and at the level of its operational entities.

Training associates for sustainable development
Sustainable development is “on the program” of the types of training given to managers at GDF SUEZ University. A two-day training session allows them to comprehend the issues of sustainable development, the Group’s policies in this regard and the specific actions undertaken as a matter of course in business areas.
Alongside this, for example, awareness-raising actions are regularly conducted for all associates during events or through dissemination of brochures on eco-friendly gestures in the work environment.

Assistance to vulnerable customers and prevention of exclusion

PHO00033087_v2.jpgSolidarity is part of the history and culture of the Group. Wherever the company provides services to residential customers, GDF SUEZ pays special attention to the least fortunate populations. In France, the Group has developed many programs in this regard.

  • The Ecogaz plan, in partnership with the French National Housing Agency (Agence française Nationale de l’Habitat: ANAH), helps home owners who are in trouble renovate facilities by funding renovations through energy savings,
  • A special solidarity rate is offered to homes facing precarious situations through funding from the Housing Solidarity Fund (FSL),
  • Since 2005, the Isigaz plan has acted to raise awareness among the most vulnerable customers about the safety of natural gas home heating systems. This program is paid for in entirety GDF SUEZ and from 2008 to 2010, represents, a 3-million Euro budget. More than 100,000 residential renters have benefitted from the plan.

GDF SUEZ also takes steps to assist young people in trouble, low income persons and disabled persons. In 2008, the Group thus contributed to supporting 5,800 persons in their search for employment, through the Fondation Agir Contre l’Exclusion, an institution that fosters inclusion.

Emmaüs France - An exemplary partnership
Committed to fighting exclusion and poverty, GDF SUEZ has partnered with an NGO with unique expertise in this domain: Emmaüs. The partnership agreement was signed for the years 2006-2009 to support inclusion through economic activity and prevent situations financial over indebtedness due to energy-related issues.

Promoting equal opportunity

A high number of actions to promote diversity of opportunity and prevent discrimination are undertaken throughout the year by subsidiaries in the Group. For example, SITA Rebond, a SUEZ Environnement subsidiary, gives long-time unemployed persons, recipients of minimum welfare support, and unqualified young people under the age of twenty-six, disabled persons and seniors access to employment.
