Renewable Energy is one of the Group’s major drivers of growth. Under this program, research and development projects are coordinated for the different renewable technologies, with emphasis on emerging technologies:
In these areas, the program watches out for technology to identify the most promising technologies for the Group. For these technologies, the program develops pilot or demonstration projects alone or in partnership with research providers or institutions.
| Creating a thin-film photovoltaic panel pilot testing plant | |
| Laborelec is now conducting a series of tests on photovoltaic technologies at its head office in Belgium. The purpose is to test the long-term performance of different thin-film solar panels under real conditions, and to add to the knowledge acquired by the company in this area. Laborelec also uses these tests to support the activities developed in photovoltaic energy by | |
| Launch of the GAYA project: industrializing an innovative bio-methane production segment | |
| The GAYA project, coordinated by CRIGEN, started up in 2010. The purpose of this project is to develop an industrial bio-methane production segment through the gasification of biomass, one of the renewable energies showing the most potential for growth potential. It has led to the signing of partnership agreements and to approval of assistance from France’s ’Agence de l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l’Énergie [ADEME - Agency for the Environment and Energy Management] and the European Commission. In addition, some R&D work has begun with partners. The project is based on the construction and operation for seven years of a platform of pre-industrial demonstrations across the entire segment. | |
